Leeuwarden will be the scenery of some new playing venues.
The programme has been arranged. More than 300 performances – 10 of which are national opening perfomances – can be attended on May 27-28-29 in the city centre of Leeuwarden. We arranged 7 new playing locations, in some very special courtyards. Beautiful hidden courtyards will be especially opened to the public to create a more intimate atmosphere.
Theater Suer will be one of those opening performances and can be attended in the courtyard of the Fryske Akademy on 28 May. Their performance “Het Ei” is about birds: big, small, chirping, crowing and about the primeval miracle of reproduction. In another courtyard – Fire Cafe – you will find another act: Banc Public, a dance performance about freedom and the escape from a tailor's existence. More of those special intimate performances can be found in the courtyards of Het Nieuwe Provinciehuis, Anton Hofstede Optician, Het Stadhouderlijk Hof, De Kleine Wereld and Eetcafé Spinoza.
Kids' afternoon
As always our kick off will be for the kids! On Friday May 27 the very special merry-go-round FrouFrou and the mobile zoo of Le Manege Sans Fil will bring fun for hours on end. And ofcourse there will be Lejo, seen before in Sesamestreet and at Lowlands. Only his 2 hands will amaze both adults and children. At 5 p.m. the FSF will be officially opened.
Music
Next to the many street acts there will also be a lot of music during the festival. The Danish Ginger Ninja known for the world champion hit Sunshine will be first on the stage on Friday 27 May, followed by La Boutique Fantastique, discovered by Colin Benders (better known as Kyteman). The next day the Belgian Les Truttes will close the night with a smashing show. This year we came with a new idea for Het Gouverneursplein, one of our locations. We chose for some world music like folk, gypsy, ska en latin for Saturday and Sunday. We booked the Ska Jazz Foundation from Rotterdam, for example and Hotel and NoBlues. They will also be there on May 28 and 29. Like last year there will again be a special “listening stage” in De Prinsentuin. Peter Broderick will be one of our guests there. So for some easy listening go to De Prinsentuin. Ruben Hein, one of the more serious talent of 3FM, will be playing some good old jazz at De Oldehoofsterkerkhof.
